# The revision record

ISO/IEC 22989:2022/FDAmd 1 is Edition 1 of an amendment to the 2022 AI vocabulary standard. ISO records stage 50.00 on 18 September 2026: the final text received or FDIS registered for formal approval. The planning date used here is 16 February 2027, an estimate, not an ISO commitment.

- Final Draft Amendment

- Edition 1

- ICS 35.020; 01.040.35

- Stage 50.00

- Planning date 16 Feb 2027

## The base standard in brief

The 2022 standard sets out the vocabulary of AI and explains the ideas behind it.
ISO says it is written to help other standards and to give different interested parties a common language.
It applies to organisations of every kind, including companies, public bodies and not-for-profits.

## What the amendment applies to

The ISO catalogue states that the amendment applies to ISO/IEC 22989:2022. The base standard is 60 pages, published on 19 July 2022, and remains at stage 60.60. Its clause 3 holds the 117 definitions this site explains.

## Where the family sits

The amendment belongs to ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 42, artificial intelligence. The base standard sits beside ISO/IEC 23053 on machine learning frameworks and ISO/IEC 42001 on AI management systems. It is a vocabulary standard: it defines terms and explains concepts, and it does not set management system requirements.

## The key date and its basis

A planning date 120 days from the scout date of 19 October 2026, chosen for this site and labelled an estimate. ISO records the amendment at stage 50.00 on 18 September 2026 and has published no date for the FDIS ballot, for publication, or for the end of the transition. The date is a planning target, not an ISO commitment.

Read the date as a planning target. ISO has published no date for the FDIS ballot or for publication. A slip changes the plan, not the vocabulary work.
