dialogue management

a task that picks the right next move in a dialogue from the user input, the history and other context, to reach a goal

What this term settles

This is the sense the standard gives dialogue management. A firm is free to use another sense, but then the difference belongs in its own glossary rather than in an assumed shared language.

Who it binds

The entry has no shall in it. Its force comes from use: once dialogue management appears in a procedure or a supplier term, this is the meaning the reader is entitled to rely on.

What to do in your practice

Map the places dialogue management appears in policy, procurement and system records. Where the word is used without the entry behind it, add the citation or replace the sentence.

Evidence an auditor or regulator asks for

  • A controlled vocabulary entry for dialogue management with the citation 3.6.2, an owner and a review date.
An auditor can check that the term is controlled rather than assumed.
  • A product description that names the language task and the input and output it handles.
Shows dialogue management in use in the artefact the firm relies on, not only in a glossary.
  • An evaluation set with the language, the domain and the scoring rule.
The product description mixes the task with the model, so a change of model reads as a change of task.
Ask your teamIf two teams were asked what dialogue management means, would their answers match this entry?

Common gaps this page catches

  • dialogue management is used in the language task in the product description without a written definition, so two teams can mean different things.
  • A local synonym has grown up beside the entry and the two are now used interchangeably.

What to prepare before the amendment lands

Take the next policy revision and replace the loose use of dialogue management with the entry and its citation. Record the change in the vocabulary change log.

How to test it here

Take one live artefact rather than a template, find the sentence or field where dialogue management is used, and put this page beside it. Record the answer, the artefact and the date, because that record is the evidence and a glossary entry on its own is only an intention.

What this page does not claim

The page does not reproduce the standard, certify the firm or predict the wording the amendment will use; it states dialogue management at the claim level "definition" and stops where the public record stops.
